It’s Health-Care Cost Negotiation Time Again

Kristen Gerencher wrote an interesting article for MarketWatch Weekend Edition entitled “VITAL SIGNS Hammering out health-care benefits, Employers finalizing negotiations for 2009 coverage offerings.”

Many employers are negotiating next year’s health care contracts right now and hammering out the details of plans with anticipated costs increasing close to 10%.  They are trying to curtail these costs and bring that number down closer to 6.5% while striking a balance between managing sky rocketing costs in a tough economy and offering a valuable benefit to obtain and retain valuable employees.

Although some may view this as an opportunity for employees to consider their own financial vital signs it seems to show that employers are attempting to control the costs that they are passing through to employees (of course they are passing them trough) and find new ways to entice employees into taking a more active role in their own health care.
